Election 2022 FAQ

Are you considering seeking election as a Republican in the 2022 elections?

Fantastic!

We are here to help! We want to prepare Harrison County Republicans to #Run2Win.

Below is a list of FAQs about the elections process.  If you have a question that is not represented here, please comment your question below or use the contact form and ask us!  We will find the answer to that question for you, and add it to this page to help benefit others.

Let’s get started!

Q: What elected positions will be on the ballot in 2022?

A: You will have the opportunity to choose a US Senator, the Congressman for your district (4th or 6th), State Representative, County Attorney, County Judge Executive, Magistrate for all 8 districts, Constables for all 8 districts, County Clerk, Property Value Administrator, Sheriff, County Attorney, Jailer, Coroner, 2 school board seats, and the City Commission. The city commission is a non-partisan position.

Q: What does each elected position do?

A: Each position is outlined in a document titled “Duties of Elected County Officials.”  The PDF of that document may be reviewed at this link. https://legislature.ky.gov/LRC/Publications/Informational%20Bulletins/ib114.pdf

Q: What are the qualifications for each elected office?

A: This is a document that lists qualifications for each position and filing fees. https://sos.ky.gov/elections/BecomingACandidate/Documents/Candidate%20Qualifications%204-20-2018.pdf

Q: What will it cost to file for candidacy?

A: See this document for filing fees: https://sos.ky.gov/elections/BecomingACandidate/Documents/Candidate%20Qualifications%204-20-2018.pdf

Q: Is this a paid position?

A: Each elected office for 2022 are paid with the exception of the School Board which receives a stipend for travel and meeting expenses but no salary.  Constables only earn fees for serving papers/documents

Q: What is the time commitment?

A:  Full time-Representative, County Judge, Sheriff, Jailer, County Clerk, PVA, All Others are Part-time

Q: How long will I serve before choosing to seek re-election?

A: Each county office serves for a 4-year term.  City Commissioners serve for 2-years.

Q: What is someone else in my district decides to run and I like them, can I withdraw my candidacy?

A: Of course, you could.  However, we would like you to consider continuing to seek office with a primary opponent.  Please remember the conviction you hold that encouraged you to seek office.  A primary election would encourage those voters who continue to be registered for another party, and typically vote Republican, to get off the fence and change their registration so that they may vote for their conservative principals.  We seek to nourish the health of our party, and what is a better way to do that then to have friendly debate and primary between conservative candidates?

Q: What district would I represent?

A: The district you represent depends on your home address.  There are 8 districts.  Each link below will take you to an online image of a map of each district.

File online KREF 001 – “When candidates file with the Secretary of State or County Clerk for ballot access, they must also file a Statement of Spending Intent and Appointment of Campaign Treasurer form (KREF 001). This form is used to provide the Registry with candidate information, identify the election date and office sought, designate a campaign treasurer, indicate the financial institution that the campaign will use, and indicate the candidate’s spending intent, which may qualify the candidate for a reporting exemption.” https://kref.ky.gov/KREF%20Forms%20and%20Pubs/Becoming%20a%20Candidate%202020-01.pdf
